The World Future Energy Summit is Abu Dhabi's January gathering for clean energy, water, smart cities and climate technology, held during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. Utilities, developers, investors and technology suppliers from around the world attend. This brief covers ADNEC, getting around Abu Dhabi, UAE business etiquette and essential Arabic.
Always confirm opening hours, registration and any last-minute changes on the official event website before you travel. The dates and venue here come from our trade-show list, and we update them when organisers announce changes.
Venue and getting there
ADNEC is on the Abu Dhabi mainland, between the airport and the downtown island. From Zayed International Airport (AUH), a taxi or transfer usually takes 20–30 minutes.
Abu Dhabi has no metro. Taxis are metered and reliable, ride-hailing apps operate, and public buses cover the main corridors. Hotels next to ADNEC let you walk to the halls.
Many visitors fly into Dubai instead. The drive from Dubai to ADNEC takes roughly 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on where you start and on traffic. Inter-city buses run as well.
January is the pleasant season in Abu Dhabi: warm days and cooler evenings. Pack a light layer for air-conditioned halls and evening events outdoors.

Business etiquette in UAE
- Greet with a handshake using your right hand, and offer and receive cards, documents and refreshments with the right hand too.
- Wait for a woman to offer her hand first; a hand on the heart and a nod is a polite alternative.
- Dress conservatively: a suit or smart business wear, with shoulders and knees covered.
- Arabic coffee and dates are a sign of hospitality. Accept at least one small cup; a gentle shake of the cup tells the host you've had enough.
- First meetings are about the relationship. Expect small talk about family, travel and the event before business, and don't rush to the price.
- Ask before you photograph people, and don't photograph government buildings.
- The UAE weekend is Saturday and Sunday, and many companies finish early on Friday, so plan follow-up meetings for Monday to Thursday.
- English is the everyday business language. A few words of Arabic are still noticed and appreciated, especially greetings.
Key Arabic phrases for the show
English will carry most conversations at an international trade show. Still, opening with a greeting in Arabic and knowing how to ask for a stand, a taxi or a slower repeat makes the trip smoother and leaves a good impression.
